Frequently Asked Questions

What happens after I get in touch?

If you would like to arrange an appointment, please complete the contact form or send me an email.

I will aim to respond as soon as possible and answer any questions you may have. We can then arrange an initial assessment session where we will discuss your difficulties, your goals for therapy, and whether I am the right therapist for your needs.

Following this, we can decide together whether ongoing therapy feels appropriate.

What happens in a CBT session?

CBT is a collaborative and practical form of therapy that focuses on understanding the relationship between our thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, and behaviours.

During sessions, we will explore the difficulties that have brought you to therapy, identify patterns that may be keeping them going, and develop practical tools and strategies to help you move forward. Depending on your needs, sessions may include guided reflection, behavioural experiments, cognitive techniques, mindfulness practices, and between-session exercises.

My aim is not simply to reduce symptoms, but to help you develop a deeper understanding of yourself and create meaningful, lasting change.

How many therapy sessions will I need?

This varies depending on your goals and the nature of your difficulties. Some clients benefit from a relatively short course of therapy, while others find longer-term work more helpful. We will regularly review your progress together and ensure therapy remains tailored to your needs. Therapy is not one-size-fits-all, and the number of sessions required will depend on what you would like to achieve.

What is the difference between CBT and Integrative Therapy?

CBT is an evidence-based approach that focuses on understanding and changing the thoughts, behaviours, and patterns that contribute to emotional difficulties. It is often structured, practical, and goal-oriented.

Integrative Therapy draws upon a range of therapeutic approaches and perspectives. Alongside practical tools and techniques, it places greater emphasis on exploring personal history, relationships, identity, values, meaning, and the wider context of your experiences.

Both approaches aim to support meaningful change. The most suitable option depends on your goals and preferences, and we can discuss this together.

What if I have never had therapy before?

Many clients come to therapy for the first time. The initial session provides an opportunity to discuss your concerns, ask questions, and decide whether therapy feels right for you.

There is no expectation that you know what to say or how therapy should work. We will move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

Do I need a diagnosis to start therapy?

No. Many people seek therapy without having a formal diagnosis.

You may be experiencing anxiety, low mood, stress, self-criticism, relationship difficulties, grief, loss, uncertainty, or simply a sense that something is not quite right. Therapy can provide a space to explore these experiences and develop a clearer understanding of what is happening.

Is the Therapy confidential?

Confidentiality is an important part of the therapeutic relationship. Information shared during therapy is kept private and treated with respect.

There are some rare circumstances where confidentiality may need to be broken, such as concerns about serious risk to yourself or others, concerns relating to the safety of a child or vulnerable adult, or where disclosure is required by law. These situations will be discussed in more detail before therapy begins.
