Your emotions do not require an apology

Apologies are for showing regret, respect, remorse and empathy after causing harm to others, ourselves and the planet. Recognising that apologies are not necessary may be difficult if you learnt to see showing emotions and sensitivity as bad. One of the approaches that regularly draw on at Cambridge CBT is Compassion Focused Therapy, an approach which helps you embrace empathy and self-acceptance. These are skills that may feel strange if you are used to harsh self-criticism, however make a huge difference.
